Attendance and Abscences

EARLY ARRIVALS - Students are not to arrive at school before 9:00 A.M. There is no supervision or crossing guard available before this time.

ATTENDANCE AND ABSENCES - Regular attendance is essential if a student is to make use of the educational opportunities that Bower offers. Parents are asked NOT to send their child to school if they are ill. Children should be free from fevers, rashes, and coughs. If your child has symptoms of a cold or influenza, they should be at home and not at school. Please visit the Health Office for more information.

If your child will not be at school for any reason, please call the school office at 393-9413 between 8:30 A.M. and 9:30 A.M. After hours you can leave a message on the answering machine with your name, child's name and teacher, and reason for absence. If we do not hear from you, the secretary will call your home or place of business. This phone call is important to guarantee your child's safe arrival at school.

EXTENDED ABSENCES, APPOINTMENTS, AND EARLY DISMISSAL - Homebound tutoring is available for students whose absences will be exceeding three weeks due to illness or injury. Please contact the school for more information.

If your child will be absent from school due to travel, please advise the office and the teacher. TEACHERS ARE NOT EXPECTED TO PROVIDE INDIVIDUAL INSTRUCTION FOR WORK MISSED DUE TO TRAVELING. Teachers may at some time and in some grade levels have materials to send along, but this is done at the teacher's discretion and not as a general policy.

Students are not allowed to leave the building or grounds at anytime during the school day without the permission of the teacher or the office. If your child needs to be dismissed early due to an appointment or visit, please send a note to school indicating the time and reason. You will be asked to come into the office to sign your child out before your child can be dismissed.
